Welcome to Commack
A quiet suburb close to NYC
Even though it’s only about an hour’s drive from Manhattan, the quaint – and quiet – suburb of Commack feels like it’s a lot further away from the hustle and bustle of NYC. Here you’ll find tree-lined streets, well-kept parks, and many things to do to keep you busy. And while Commack is in the middle of densely populated Long Island, it has a peaceful and subdued vibe. For the less than 40,000 residents, it’s almost like living in a private community.

Local Lifestyle
Many families choose to live in Commack because of the suburban atmosphere and the great schools. Plus, thanks to the relatively short commute into New York City, it’s home to many professionals. Commack is also popular with retirees and people who love living near a major city but just don’t want to be in the city itself.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
No matter what you need for your home, pets, or yourself, you will have no trouble finding it in and around Commack. The
Mayfair Shopping Center contains dozens of stores that sell everything from clothing and jewelry to video games and musical instruments. For the latest in women’s apparel, you’ll want to check out
Twenty5A, which is especially well-known for its extensive selection of jeans and other denim products. If you’re a crafter, you’ll be happy to know that Commack has a number of larger retail and big box stores for anything you may need.
When shopping has worked up your appetite, there are many fantastic restaurants in Commack. If what you’re craving is a big bowl of ziti, ravioli, or another Italian dish,
MaBella Restaurant is the place to go. If you’d rather go for Chinese,
Spicy Home Tasty will serve you up some very fresh fare. For huge steaks, heaping plates of paella, and an extensive selection of tapas,
Sangria 71 will do nicely. And when you want to prepare your own meals, both
Trader Joe’s and
Whole Foods will let you pick out some tasty ingredients.
While you can venture into New York City to catch a show, you don’t have to leave Commack to do it. The
Star Playhouse may be a community theater, but it puts on well-renowned plays and musicals. You can also see the latest flicks at the
AMC Dine-In Huntington Square 12 cinema. And you don’t just have to settle for popcorn; you can enjoy a burger, salad, and even a milkshake while you take in a movie.
Things to Do
If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you’ll love visiting the
Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve. This offers a variety of walking trails, along with playgrounds, picnic areas, and horseshoe pits. You can also visit the Hoyt Farm Nature Center. In addition to Native American artifacts, here you can see several animals, such as turtles, frogs, and snakes. The restored Hoyt Playhouse is on the grounds as well, and this dates back to the 1920s.
For a quiet couple of hours, you’ll want to stop by the
Commack Public Library. Whether you want to peruse the extensive collection of books, surf the web, or maybe take advantage of their 3d printer, the library provides an excellent way to relax and maybe learn a thing or two.
